Admission Procedure for below mentioned Courses
General Information for Candidates for
the Course Leading to the College Degree of
Doctor of Theology
   
A. The Administrative Structures
1.
Research Committee of the BTESSC
The Research Committee shall be in overall charge of administering the programme according to policies and regulations laid down from time to time by the Senate. Its responsibilities shall be
(a)
To accord recognition to the Centres of doctoral study in terms of stipulated criteria.
(b)
To admit candidates recommended by the Centres, in accordance with the regulation of the senate.
(c)
To co-ordinate the programme of Centres to ensure uniform standard and interaction between doctoral students in various centre.
(d)
To recommend to the Senate the membership of the different Boards of Doctoral Studies.
(e)
To approve on the recommendation of the centre the plans of study and the dissertation proposals of the candidates and to appoint supervisors and examiners and declare results
(f)
To call for periodic reports on the candidates
(g)
To approve any modifications in standard requirements in view of a candidate's achievements and needs.
(h)
To appoint a member to the supervising committee of each doctoral candidates;
(i)
To stimulate through SATHRI, the emergence of centers of doctoral study specially in branches and regions where there are no centers and to help in the development of facilities needed.
(j)
When no centre for any particular area of research is available through SATHRI, to arrange programme with the help of communities of scholars outside the Centres when such programmes are not available in any other centers.
(k)
To arrange, through SATHRI, a methodology seminar for all prospective or entering candidates to the doctoral programme.
(l)
To facilitate, through SATHRI, the meeting of doctoral candidates for mutual interaction by periodicals, inter-disciplinary seminars.
(m)
To look into difficulties that may arise in the academic work of a candidate and find suitable solutions to them in consultation with the centre and candidate.
(n)
To facilitate a programme of non-formal research by offering scholarships and provide a suitable infrastructure for it

The Boards of Doctoral Studies
There shall be separate Boards of Doctoral Studies for each branch of specialization consisting of three to five members:
(a)
Recommend to the research Committee the academic requirements for their respective branches of study.
(b)
Lay down criteria for screening of candidates for admission by the Centre.
(c)
Recommend to the research committee any modifications necessary in standard requirements in view of candidates' achievements and needs.
(d)
Recommend to the Research Committee study plans and dissertation proposals.

Research Centre:
Doctoral Research Centres may either be individual institutions or be well structures joint programmes of institutions I a region recognised by the senate as competent to offer the D.Th. jpro0gramme. If the latter, the staff belonging to the Centre should reside sufficiently close together to be readily available for meetings with the candidates and participation in research seminars.
Each recognised Centre should have a minimum of two specialists in each branch in which the doctorate is offered and should have at least one faculty member in another branch with competence to supervise doctoral candidates. These persons should normally have a research doctorate degree recognised by the Senate. Proven competence in teaching and a period of productive research subsequent to the earned doctorate. The Centre should be able to satisfy the Research Committee that adequate time of such staff ahs been set apart for the D.Th. Programmes. Each Centre will also need to satisfy and evaluation team that adequate library resources are available at the centre and/or in its vicinity.
The responsibilities of a Centre shall be:
(a)
To appoint a doctoral committee consisting of at least three or more professors who are qualified to guide doctoral studies and to designate one person as dean who shall give special attention to the work of the candidates and prepare reports on the candidates for Research Committee.
(b)
To screen the applicants according to criteria laid down by the Senate and to recommend them to the Research Committee for admission.
(c)
To make adequate arrangements for guidance in the formulation of study plans.
(d)
To recommend to the Research Committee the entire plan of study of each candidate.
  (e)
To recommend to Research Committee/SATHRI persons to be appointed as supervisors.
  (f)
To implement to programme of studies for each candidate as per regulations laid down from time to time by the Senate.
  (g)
To arrange for candidates to meet periodically with the faculty of the centers for d\seminars of a inter- disciplinary nature.
